1. GM

2015 Sales: 3,082,366 autos

2015 Market share: 17.6%

GM is one of the top selling car brands world-wide for calendar year 2015. The well-established auto manufacturer saw a 5% improvement over the company’s 2014 sales with a total of 3,082,366 vehicles sold for the year. The total sales in December 2015 were 290,230, and GM captured 17.6% of market share for the year. Top auto models sold by the company for the year include the GMC Sierra pickup truck that sold 222,139 trucks this year for a 17.1% improvement over December sales for last year, and a 5.8% increase in sales for the year. Also included in GM sales figures for the year are sales for the Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac brands that are all owned by the parent company. The Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and Chevrolet Equinox was the top selling auto models from these brands with the Silverado seeing a total of 600,544 vehicles sold for the year.

2. Ford

2015 Sales: 2,603,082 autos

2015 Market share: 14.9%

The Ford Motor Company is one of the top selling car brands for 2015. The popular auto manufacturer sold more than 2,600,000 autos for the year which represents a 5.3% improvement over 2014. The total sales for December were 57,989, and the company finished the year with 14.9% of the industry market share. Some of the more popular auto models sold by the company include the Ford F Series pickup truck that saw 780,354 trucks sold this past year for a 3.5% increase when compared to 2014. Other popular auto models include the Ford Escape that had 306,492 autos sold, the Ford Fusion with 300,170 cars sold, and the Ford Explorer with 249,251 SUVs sold for an 18.7 percent sales increase when compared to 2015.

3. Toyota

Toyota is one of the top selling car brands worldwide. The well-established auto manufacturer saw a total sales figure for calendar year 2015 of 2,499,313 which represents a 5.3 percent improvement from the brand’s 2014 performance. The overall sales for December were 238,350, and the company saw 14.3% market share for the year. Popular auto models for Toyota for the past year include the Toyota Camry which sold 429,355 cars for a .2 percent increase, the Toyota Corolla / Matrix which saw a sales volume of 363,332 representing a 7.0% increase in sales, and the Toyota RAV4 which sold 315,412 SUVs for a 17.8% increase in sales compared to calendar year 2014.

4. Chrysler

2015 Sales: 2,200,834 autos

2015 Market share: 12.6%

The Chrysler car brand is one of the top selling in the market for the past calendar year. Chrysler sells autos under the Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler auto brands, and saw a total sales volume of 2,200,834 autos for the 2015 calendar year. December sales were 213,665 autos, and the company’s brands have a total market share of 12.6%. Sales for 2015 were up overall for the brand a total of 7.7%, and some of the popular auto models sold were the Chrysler 300, the Jeep Cherokee with a total sales number of 220,260 representing a 23.4% increase over 2014. The Dodge Ram pickup truck had 451,116 models sold for a 2.6 % increase, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee saw 195,958 SUVs sold for a 6.6% increase over 2014 numbers.

The well-established auto brand saw a total sales volume of 1,586,551 autos representing a 3% improvement over the 2014 calendar year sales. Honda completed 2015 with an overall market share of 9.1%, and had a December sales volume of 150,893. Some of the popular auto models sold by the brand include the Honda Accord that had 355,557 cars sold in 2015 which is down approximately 8.4% from 2014, the Honda Civic with 335,384 cars sold representing a net gain of 2.9%, the Honda Corolla / Matrix with 363,332 cars sold for an increase of 7%, and the Honda CR-V with 345,647 autos sold for a 3.2% increase from 2014.

6. Nissan

2015 Sales: 1,484,918 autos

One of the top selling car brands in the world is Nissan. The company saw a total sales volume of 1,484,918 autos in 2015 representing a 7.1% increase over calendar year 2014 sales. The Japanese auto manufacturer also saw an 8.5% market share for the year. The December sales volume for Nissan was 111,318 cars sold which resulted in a net monthly increase in sales of 18.7% when compared to last year.  Some of the more popular car models sold by the company (by volume) include the Nissan Altima with a total of 333,398 cars sold for a net decrease of 0.7% compared to 2014, and the Nissan Sentra which saw 203,509 cars sold for a net increase of 11.0%.
